X -RAY TUBE SCHEMATIC

- A low voltage electric current (about 12v) is supplied to heat the cathode filament and releases free electrons.

- A very high electric potential (about 40-140 kv) between the cathode and anode accelerates free electrons towards the anode. As they hit the anode, X-rays and heat are produced. The greater the electric potential, the shorter the wave length of X-rays created.
